The two St John restaurants are a must for anyone from out of the country who thinks that it's not possible to get good British food. They've had to push back past the second world war to surface some of this stuff, but it's British food at its best.
Really interesting. Latkes, german sausages, beer, good brunches and a lovely environment in Hayes Valley. The Almdudler ginger ale-like drink is particularly nice and the apple juice and mineral water is suprisingly good too.
Really, really good and not ridiculously expensive at all.
