Downtown: Milwaukee Art Museum - beautiful, right by the lake, great collection. Downtown Books - used book store, tons of hidden treasures, maze-like setup, great for browsing. The Third Ward has great boutiques and galleries and cafe's and restaurants, perfect for a casual stroll.

East Side: SCHWARTZ BOOKS! Milwaukee's Independent since 1927, new and used books, support the local community - on Downer Ave with Cafe Hollander (fantastic beer/ale selection, great food), Downer Ave Theatre. Also North Ave has many great restaurants and bars (check out Beans & Barley restaurant and market). Brady street for barhopping and more small clothing and misc. shops (Apollo Cafe has great greek food).
