Mandi Walls replied over 3 years agoReston is in the greater Washington, DC area, but is beyond the outer limits of the DC Metro system. Fortunately, if you want to visit DC from Reston, Fairfax Connector has several bus routes that run on the weekends from the Town Center area to the Metro station at West Falls Church. From there it is a short train ride in to the heart of DC.
Reston is also close to shopping in Tyson's Corner, which can be reached with some creative bus rides but is easier accomplished in a car. Take change for the toll road, it's $0.35 or $0.50 for the trip.
Reston also has a lot of nice open spaces and easy access to the W&OD bike trail, which extends from DC to Leesburg.
From April to October there are events at the Town Center, including a Pet Fiesta, Taste of Reston, art shows, and concerts. Many of the events are free, and the schedule is posted at the Town Center and most area hotels should have the list.
