Amada has the best tapas and sangria around. You'll pay the price, but it's worth it.

Many people suggest going to Geno's and/or Pat's for the best Philly steak. Been to both of them many many many times, and I can honestly say that your time and money are better spent going out to Roxborough and finding Dalessandro's. Just don't go out there on Sunday's...it's closed!

Pat's and Geno's are great. I always preferred Pat's. Both use thick slices of steak, but are overall smaller sandwiches. Prepare to feel stupid if you don't know how to order! (I won't instruct since getting corrected is somewhat of a rite of passage!) They're located at Passyunk Ave and I believe 9th st., catty-corner from each other and open 24 hours.
However, many locals also love Jim's on South St.. This is a larger sandwich, less strict on the ordering vernacular, and are more of a shredded steak, like you will find all over New Jersey. All three are great after-meals at 3am. Jim's closes a little earlier. If you're going any time on the weekend when it's warm, or any night after 2am, prepare for a long wait...

Anna Weiss replied over 4 years agoThe Magic Garden at about 10th and South is truly staggering to behold. It's essentially an entire house and garden covered in mosaic.
The smaller Rodin Museum is a worthier alternative to the Art Museum, in my opinion--sort of a trade-off of quality vs. quantity. Although the view from atop the Art Museum steps is not to be missed!
Finally, I would forgo all Liberty Bell/Independence Hall-type stuff (overrated) and instead visit the old Penitentiary. WAY cooler.

Nancy King replied over 4 years agoThe Mutter Museum is the museum of medical oddities. You will not find another museum like this anywhere else! Small, do-able in 2-3 hours, and absolutely fascinating. You'll find the skeleton of the world's tallest man standing beside the skeleton of a dwarf, and a picture documentary of the lives of the first Siamese twins (along with pictures of their wives and kids!).
I would also recommend the Eastern State Penitentiary as the above poster did. Make sure to sign up for a tour, or go at night to get the full effect!
Parks: Fairmount Park has a great frisbee-golf course, as well as good light hiking. If you want more of a city park - Rittenhouse Park is the way to go for good people-watching.
