If you're in Harrisburg, you must visit the Broad Street Market, the oldest continually-operating farmers' market in the country. Market stands feature prepared foods, meats, produce and desserts. It's at 3rd and Verbeke Streets in midtown Harrisburg, a short walk from the Capitol. It's open Wednesday-Saturday and closes at 5pm.

Agreed with Broad Street! Across the way is Midtown Scholar, a fantastic little independent book shop worth checking out.

And if you're looking for fresh, local produce in the summer, two additional markets to check out would be the Farmers' Market at the Farm Show Building at 6th and Cameron on Tuesdays and Fridays (I believe, the days may have changed).

Another great choice, if you have a car or other transport, is Strites' Orchard in Chambers Hill, about a 10 minute drive from downtown right off of Interstate 83/Route 322. They always have great fresh produce, jams and jellies, baked goods and flowers.
