Where's good to stay in New York?

  No, I'm not particulary impressed by the Soho Grand. It doesn't feel so grand anymore. Disapponting rooms, lazy concierge and... They have the setting and the brand and they sure could ride high on their downtown location for many years to come, but they simply do not deliver.   If you smile this place is amazing. The staff are all really special. The people who run both shifts at the bar restaurant are really friendly and amazingly approachable for such beautiful "beautiful" people. The guys on the door are the best in New York. The bar guys make killer Martinis. The rooms are small, but comfortable. But if you come to New York and you're spending all your time in your room - you're either very lucky or very sad. I love this hotel and I spend my life in them.

  The huge Penthouse Suite, designed by William Sofield, is a gorgeous place to stay if you can afford it. The sunset in the balcony gives a a beautiful, nostalgic and secret view of Manhattan.
