The best lobster roll in the city. Plus delicious Caeser salad and a warm and intimate decor. And the odds of spotting co-owner and Personal Democracy Forum net-politics guru Andrew Rasiej are pretty high...

My favorite burgers in NYC, and the deadliest shakes. Get the deep fried, cheese-stuffed portabello mushrooms stacked on a cheeseburger with fries and a valrhona chocolate shake

Very nice, small, quick Italian place. I had ravioli and a glass of house red wine and it was enough for me to want to go back whenever I'm nearby.

Great gyoza, and the sushi and sashimi are always good too (though not quite as adventurous as other places). The crispy shrimpy gets a thumbs up :)

Still my favourite steak house in NY, despite lots of effort by certain parties to persuade me otherwise. The beef is always great, but the lamb chops are the real stars of the menu.

I find it really hard to sleep here. The rooms are small and I think you could get much better for the same price elsewhere in Manhattan. Good location however.

Empire Diner is a great diner as seen in, amongst other films, Men in Black II. A good sightseeing eatery alternative to Katz's Deli. The food was very nice and the interior is as classic as it gets. Also close to Chelsea Piers where you can play a little baseball in the batting cages if you live outside the USA and like ticking the boxes on 'things to have done before you die'. :-)

The Bentley was a great choice of hotel when I was in NYC on holiday with a friend. Its location meant we saw some areas we may not have visited and we never felt far from all the usual attractions. Rooms were well finished, clean and comfortable and staff very helpful and the price was good value. Amazing views at night from the rooftop bar.

I can see how New Yorkers and Americans like this place as it has "something" of France... The thing is, you also see people at the bar "reading" the old copy of the Le Monde newspaper while they don't understand a word of French... The food was OK, the service impersonal but correct and the interior very "European". As a Belgian, I must admit, this was maybe not the place to go for me as I compare to much with "the real thing"....

Gruppo was by far the food highlight of my month in New York, it demanded a second visit. The best pizza I've had in my life, thin-crust or otherwise with very fresh ingredients and wonderful service. If you've got a party larger than 4, see if you can get the back table, it's a bit cramped but adds to the atmosphere. (we fit 10 in there :D)

An Eco version of Nolita's Cafe Habana. Opens during the summer and it's a great open air space to enjoy Cuban food. Look out for the open air film shows, Burlesque reviews and other events.

Come here for Hookah in a variety of flavors ($20 a pipe) and moderately priced drinks (though the sizing runs small). The atmosphere is beautiful, especially at night, with an outdoor courtyard and a ceiling covered in grape wines and white lights. Indoors the decor mainly centers on the stained glass windows that give the whole place a sacred, secret feeling.
