Kim Weckström replied over 5 years agoTired of Hotels - stay in a flat
If you suffer from lobbyfobia like me, there are great alternatives in NYC - Stay in a flat. We found a great studio in the West village throuh Graig's list. The address is 17 Bank Street, The cross streets are W4th Street and Waverly Place. The flat is owned by Anya and Giovanni who live upstairs. They really take good care of you. We paid $ 2K for a nine day's stay. The Waverly inn is right across the street. You can reach Anya at (212)463-8779, and Giovanni's at (917)353-5158.

pascale van durme replied over 4 years agoQT Hotel - functional design
Standard rates are at the higher end, but worthwhile checking for promo's as it is just a fine hotel in the heart of town. Everything has been thought of and the staff is very helpful. (free wifi and breakfast buffet)
This tip has the address "steps away from Times Square (but very limited noise in the rooms)" -
Jon Moss replied over 4 years agoGreat hotel in Midtown - 70 Park Avenue
Great hotel - excellent location, lovely rooms, not too expensive and the best bit?
The staff.
Friendly and helpful. It's part of the Kimpton Group (they seem to have some excellent hotels in the US).

Natalie Kozlova replied over 4 years agoHotel - Club Quarters Midtown
Unbelievably perfect location in the very centre of Manhattan and decent prices. Good services.
p.s. do not consider living in Queens or at the other side of Brooklyn - it makes no sense to save few dollars at such a stake! Manhattan is a place to be!

Winter may not be the best time to travel to USA as far as seasonal surprises are concerned (cold, snow, etc) However, prices of accommodation are impressively lower. So many things are going on in the city, that it is absolutely worth to check it out. Put on your warm clothes and stay in luxury for minimum.
This tip has the address "Harlem" -
Mikko Simon replied over 4 years agoThe Belleclaire hotel on the Upper West Side (75th and Broadway) is a great value if you can get a room. The hotel is tourist class so plenty of young or budget travelers, but the rooms are clean and pretty spacious and it's a much nicer neighborhood than being in midtown. Very close to the 1/2/3 subway as well so easy to move around.

Bill Reid replied over 3 years agoDon't just think "hotel". Add "vacation rentals" to your search and you could find a much better place to stay and even save a lot of money in the process. If traveling with a family, this is the only way to go.
I have started a web site to list out budget vacation rentals and have found several for New York City priced under US $150 a night with some being under US $100 a night. Hard to beat these prices even with a small hotel room.

Hakan Nyberg replied over 3 years agoNo, I'm not particulary impressed by the Soho Grand. It doesn't feel so grand anymore. Disapponting rooms, lazy concierge and... They have the setting and the brand and they sure could ride high on their downtown location for many years to come, but they simply do not deliver. Read/see more here: http://www.guidebook.se/?p=327

Anne M replied over 3 years agoStayed on the 19th floor in a room facing out towards W 35th and got an excellent view of the Empire State Building right outside our hotel room window. The hotel is very well situated in Midtown Manhattan and most sights are within walking distance or you can get the subway. Very clean and quiet hotel with very courteous reception and Concierge staff.
34th Street/Herald Sq. Subway (for B, D, F, N, Q, R, V and W trains) right outside the hotel for transport connections. Macy's and Broadway are just one block away.

Hakan Nyberg replied over 3 years agoThe Standard Hotel New York – it looked nice but being fed with so much hype prior to the stay sure affected my experience, (yes, my expectations were too high – the downside of PR activities too well executed). As with the hotel in Downtown L.A. the staff did their best to pretend they were cooler than their guests. Still, it is a well designed and spectacular place, straddling the High Line. Also, those floor-to-ceiling windows provide exhibitionists with a stage. Yes, you know what I'm talking about! Images + full review here: http://www.guidebook.se/?p=687

G. Justin Hulog replied over 3 years agoThis very well might be my favorite hotel in New York for the following reasons:
1. Amazing staff (Shane and Tiffany are really great) 2. The street is really quiet (which is weird because it's right next to Grand Central, but it feels like you're on the UWS) 3. No elevator traffic in the morning (huge when trying to get to a meeting on time) 4. No drunken socialites running around at all hours of the night (which is good when you want to actually get some sleep)

Anne M replied over 3 years agoPretty swanky without being overly tacky or trendy. Really friendly staff and the rooms are quite large and spacious. If you're on the 8th or 9th floor, depending on what side of the hotel your room is on, you can get a pretty amazing view of the Chrysler Building, and of course, Grand Central is only around the corner.

Bill Merrick replied over 3 years agoIf you smile this place is amazing. The staff are all really special. The people who run both shifts at the bar restaurant are really friendly and amazingly approachable for such beautiful "beautiful" people. The guys on the door are the best in New York. The bar guys make killer Martinis. The rooms are small, but comfortable. But if you come to New York and you're spending all your time in your room - you're either very lucky or very sad. I love this hotel and I spend my life in them.
