Nicole Tecco replied over 4 years agoDepends on what type of stuff you're looking for. For example, the Essex and Union Square are better for food. Around the corner from Essex on Ludlow is a great weekend market. They have clothes, luggage, etc. Also, if you're looking for deals on that kind of stuff you can't miss Canal Street or Fulton Mall in Brooklyn.

dreXeL ... replied over 4 years agoMarket implies food and shopping implies other things than food, so the question should probably be split into two or more categories to make it easier for people to search. But my favorite shopping trip starts at Union Square, then walk down broadway toward Soho. I end at YRB, since pretty much every store in the world that I love is between there. If you can't find what you're looking for clothing and shoes-wise during that walk, something is severely wrong.

David Berkowitz replied over 4 years agoUnion Square's farmers market is the best in the city, operating Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday year-round. It's a great area for all kinds of shopping, and there's a special holiday fair in the weeks before Christmas.

Veronique Brossier replied over 4 years agoSince everyone already mentioned Union Square, I will add another suggestion: Chinatown. Go to Chinatown any day of the week early in the morning. You will find the cheapest vegetable and fish in the city.
