My favorite place in Ann Arbor is Grizzly Peak - great for their food and their award-winning beers! Similar in atmosphere and menu to Arbor Brewing Company, but better, in my opinion. On W Washington just off Main St.

For something more formal (and more expensive, of course), check out the Pacific Rim (Asian fusion; on W Liberty just off Main St) or Gratzi (Italian; on Main St).

For something more economical, head toward campus and try Sadako (Asian, on S University), China Gate (S University), Pizza House (Church St), or Pizza Bob's (State St). I very highly recommend Pizza Bob's for their chipatis - it's basically a salad inside a warm pita. Goes perfectly with a chocolate shake!

Zingerman's Roadhouse! You get great food at an Ann Arbor institution. I highly recommend the fried chicken. You can always take in the Deli, but that's more a lunch time thing than your first night in town.

The restaurants downtown are mostly ok but not inspiring. The Roadhouse is a little expensive, but your food and your experience will be worth the extra dollars. Zingerman's waitstaff really know their food, and they'll make sure you're happy.
