Red Sox or Celtics game if they are playing A show at The paradise or TTs A walk through Boston Common, followed by a stroll down Newbury Street and in to the South End. Followed by drink and dinner at the Franklin Cafe

Boston is a very walkable city, and I would recommend a weekend of exploring the various neighborhoods: Back Bay, Beacon Hill, North End, South End, Cambridge. There one will encounter many historical and cultural sights with plenty of cafe's and shopping opportunities.

I would also strongly recommend the Museum of Fine Arts (http://www.mfa.org/), which has a great collection of work from ancient times to colonial to contemporary. The new Institute of Contemporary Art (http://www.icaboston.org/) is also worth seeing if only for its stunning architecture.

I agree with Adam. Boston is very walkable. I would add a couple of neighborhoods - Charlestown (The Navy Yard and the USS Constitution, the Old Warren Tavern, and any of the great restaurants in old town) and Jamaica Plain (esp Center/South Street area and the Arboretum). In the summer, you might also want to think about an excursion to the Harbor Islands. Boston is never more beautiful than from the water and the Harbor Islands are pretty special - Fort Warren on Georges Island, the beach and concerts on Spectacle Island, the Outward Bound School on Thompson Island, Boston Light on Little Brewster Island ...

Go on a duck tour. Then move around the city from there.

A couple of places in addition to the ones above:

Would definitely recommend the North End if you're a fan of Italian food. Quaint, cutesy Italian neighbourhood with cobblestone streets and cafes that has a lot of charm and yummy gelato. I used to love Trani, but they shut it down, but there's Mike's Pastries. Also biking by the Charles on a warm summer day.

I highly recommend visiting Cambridge, home to Harvard and MIT. Walk around Harvard Square and stop by Border Cafe if you fancy cajun food and killer margheritas or sangrias. Cambridge 1 has excellent flatbread pizzas with unusual toppings and if you're in the mood for a fancier meal, then Harvest is the place to go.

Central Square, Cambridge - not too much of a place to walk around but you'll find some great bands playing at the Middle East, Zuzu.

Being from England, we wanted to visit a genuine dining car diner. We heard of the South Street Diner. We arranged to meet our Texas friends there.
