Be careful with the Galt House.

The Galt House is right on the river, and bills itself as a "four star" hotel. The reality is a bit different. It has two towers, one of which is four star accommodations (the east), one of which is two star accommodations (the west). The staff is about right for a three star hotel. If you can't guarantee you're in the east tower I'd pass; but if you can it has a great view of the river, and is centrally located. It also does a huge convention business, with lots of space of its own and a connection to the convention center. Great for a convention, woe to anyone unlucky enough to meet 200 people who just got out of an event wanting the same elevator.

I stayed in the Holiday Inn (2005). It was clean and at the time, you had a choice of smoking or non smoking rooms. The rooms we had were large and the service was very good. The staff was friendly and really helpful.

We look forward to staying there again this November if they are still there.

The Bourbon Bar is amazing an worth the trip! Huge selection of Bourbons and a detailed description of taste difference between them. The staff was very educated on Bourbon and very helpful. Now, I hate Bourbon, but the folks I was with made the trip enjoyable! Highly recommended if you are looking for a comfortable Bourbon bar to enjoy a large selection.

Been staying there every March for the last 8 years - great hotel in the heart of downtown and adjacent to 4th Street Live - another great visit to the hotel and Louisville.
