Highly recommend Donn's Kodiak Grill, which is east of Boise. It sits at the crest of Highway 21's ascent, just beyond Lucky Peak Dam. Worth the drive! Sweet potato fries are to die for (try the cinnamon-butter -- it makes them taste like candied yams). Very generous portions; lovely flavors; rustic setting.

Definitely Barbacoa. It's a five minute drive from downtown. The food is Spanish and very tasty; everything from meats to fishes. There's an outside area that overlooks the small lake at Parkcenter. But it's the whole experience that makes it fun--lots of contrasting color, funky design, Spanish music, a lively bar, candles that have been re-lit hundreds of times so the wax drips off the ledges and they hand make the guacamole right at your table. Can't recommend enough.
