    Traffic Paterns

When traveling to Atlanta if there is a way to avoid driving (traveling to Down Town) do it. If you must drive know there is no such thing as reverse communte so avoid the roads from 8:00 am - 9:30 am and 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. One tip is if you must travel to the suburbs take the Marta Train north to Lenox station, exit and rent a car at the JW Marriott hotel located just across the street.

Dollar Rental Car isn't at the airport...

When picking rental car options, be aware that pickup/dropoff for Dollar is not actually on the airport grounds, but offsite. This means extra time on both sides of your trip if you don't plan ahead.

    Drivable City

I've driven in Boston, NYC, LA, Chicago and a lot of towns in between. Like most cities, Atlanta does have a rush hour that is best avoided, but otherwise, this is a very drivable city. The pace is not nearly as cut throat as what I have experienced up north (where I grew up), and since the public transit system is not ideal, a car is really a must if you want to see all that this city has to offer.

Where to play golf as a visitor

Atlanta, despite its ideal climate, is unfortunately not a great place to play golf at public courses. Nonetheless, here it goes:

If you're into "grunge golf" - playing at crap holes - you're in luck. Try Bobby Jones, or any of the municipal courses.

Good mid-range courses include Wolf Creek (about 10 minutes from the airport, east of town), Heritage (up I-85, first exit outside 285 northbound), and a par 3-4 course called Legacy, off Windy Hill (first exit outside I-285 on I-75 northbound).

For higher quality golf, put a little more gas in the tank and either haul out I-20 east of town to the Frog or up I-85 to either Bear's Best or Chateau Elan's courses.

Hopefully you'll just know someone that belongs to a club.

Explore the Centennial Park Area in Downtown Atlanta. It is here that you will find some of the best things to do in Atlanta. Visit the Gerogia Aquarium billed as the largest aquarium in the world. Explore the New World of Coca-Cola and see how Coke is produced and the largest memorabilia collection of Coca-Cola products in the world. You can also tour CNN Studios which broadcasts the news to billions all over the world. Get a quick bite to eat in the CNN Center before catching a show in the state of the art Philips Arena where the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Thrashers play. From here you can also walk to the State Capitol or stroll through the stores in Underground Atlanta. Nowhere else in Atlanta will you find so much to do in such a small area!

If it's a nice day, walk around Piedmont Park. The new aquatic center is terrific, so bring your suit and your iPod to avoid all the noise from the little ones. You can also hit the Atlanta Botanical Garden along the way and if you're missing your puppy back home, visit the dog park. Don't go the convenient route and eat lunch at Park Tavern. Just outside the main gate along Piedmont Ave. is The Nook - great summer day bar food.

Check out the Westin Hotel on Peachtree St. in Downtown. It's the tallest hotel in the Western Hemisphere with a revolving three-level restaurant on top. The view there is incredible. And as long as you feign ignorance of their "must spend $20" policy, you can look at it for free.
