Malls in Buckhead - Lenox and Phipps (Higher-end). Day-to-day, shopping at Whole Foods on Ponce de Leon in Midtown or Edgewood Kroger.

for grocery shopping, Trader Joe's in the Midtown Promenade (Monroe Drive and Virginia Avenue) or Whole Foods on Ponce (de Leon)...

for retail, any of the shops in Virginia-Highland (along North Highland Avenue).

I'd like to second Joseph Mole's recommendation of the Candler Park Market. The DeKalb Farmer's Market is unlike any other grocery shopping in Atlanta, and prices on organic fruits and veggies are really, really low (often cheaper than non-organic counterparts in chain stores).

I personally like The Forum at Peachtree Parkway especially on a nice day. I'm not much of a Mall person, so this works for me. Nice shops, places to eat, coffee... Trader Joes is there too!

I also like the Dekalb Farmer's Market. Very unique. Things from all over the World.

Lil Five Points and surrounding Virginia Highlands is also a great place... lots of little shops, places to eat and hang out, and just really laid back.

Farmers markets are always great - Dekalb Farmer's Market and Sweet Auburn Market have great international variety of fresh produce and meats. There are also some great Asian markets along Buford Highway. Guess it depends on what you are looking for.

The best LOCAL place for shopping (with a fantastic wine selection) is Candler Park Market on McClendon just east of Little Five Points. The staff there are fantastic, and always very helpful if you're looking for that perfect bottle of wine for a dinner party. They also have a deli and other specialty items.
