In NY there ARE Salvadorans but the community in D.C. is huge. Therefore there are tons of pupuserias, making some of the best pupusas north of San Salvador.

Paul Brannan replied over 4 years agoDC's best small hotel
It's small, it's perfectly formed - in fact it's like staying in an antiques shop - it's the Tabard Inn. It has a cracking restaurant, some great nooks and crannies, and it's a world away from the uniform, big-chain establishments. http://www.flickr.com/photos/newshound/tags/tabard/

alice chang replied over 4 years agoUse the DC metro website.
It is helpful for getting around the DC metro area (including NoVA and parts of MD). One should note that the buses servicing the same route will have the same numbers even if they're servicing opposite directions, so be aware of which bus stop you're standing at. :P
I suggest using the travel planner to get an initial idea of where the transfer points are and which bus lines are pertinent to your target destination, and then possibly looking up the actual schedules for fine-tuning, or in case something exceptional happens (like traffic or being late and missing your bus).

Alice Thornton replied over 4 years agoGo to the remodeled Museum of American History, and pass up all of the touristy stuff--go straight for the Sculock Studios exhibit. See what it was like for Black Washingtonians between 1900-1970. I'm a DC native, and I am impressed. Finally, a chance for folks to see what we're really like.

Louise Waring replied over 4 years agoEven a regular visitor to the city may not be much aware about it, but the Textile Museum figures in on the list of must-visit places, especially if you are an admirer of art. It has a fabulous collection of modern and traditional textiles from all over the world, you will love it.

Leigh Cooper replied over 3 years agoEastern Market is really fun to visit, especially on weekends, where you there's a variety of produce, meats, and specialty foods stalls as well as some local farmers, folk artists, and street musicians. The food part is open every day except Monday, but the stalls outside are only set up on weekends. It's accessible by metro stop of the same name.
You should also hang in Dupont Circle for some awesome reading, great coffee shops, and a few fun bars and lounges (including Thievery Corporation's 18th Street Lounge).

George Brett replied over 2 years agoWhether in daylight or at night I most enjoy the FDR Memorial around the Tidal Basin. Sadly, the last few years the maintenance hasn't been great, but it is tactile, kinesthetic, visual as well as both performance art & visual art all wrapped up in FDR's many terms as POTUS.
