Golden Gate Park, in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. The ferry to Tiburon can be great if the water is smooth (low winds). Music venues all over town. Farmer's Market at the Ferry Building. Dim Sum in Chinatown.

You can go to Alcatraz if you reserve in advance. It's a bit touristy but it's a great thing to visit.

Take a walk on the trail on Lands' End - From Sutro Heights to Sea Cliff. Start with Breakfast at Louis' Diner above the Sutro Baths Ruins before you set out.

If you're feeling ambitious, continue on through Sea Cliff to The Presidio, Baker Beach, under the Golden Gate Bridge anchorage, then Crissie Field. At Crissie, refresh yourself with a latte at the Warming Hut.

Mind Blowing views the whole way no matter what the weather.

Even if you're not a big baseball fan, catching a game at the Giants stadium downtown is a great experience. Great food, beer and a really wonderful park to watch a game. No need to buy tickets in advance; catch the N-Judah underground/trolley or a taxi down South of MArket (SOMA) and check the box office or pick one up from a scalper. Just wait until 10 minutes before the game and you can negotiate for good seats; especially if you get two sellers to compete with each other!

Golden Gate Park has a big variety of things to see - the Flower Conservatory is a short but interesting visit , the newly renovated California Academy of Sciences and the great de Young Museum of Art. You could spend an entire weekend just in the park. If you hit the park and it's not too foggy, head to the Beach Chalet (at the edge of the Park on the Ocean) around sunset for a cocktail and enjoy the view.

Escape! Either hire a bike and cycle over the Golden Gate to the Marin Headlands, or hire a car and drive a bit further north to Muir Woods, Mt. Tamalpais or Point Reyes National Seashore. Make sure to take Highway 1 for the death-defying windy cliff roads (but not if you get car sick.)

Burritos rule in the Mission District. Grab one with your favorite fixings at my favorite spot: Taqueria Cancun‎ (on Mission at 19th) and if the weather is nice, head over to Dolores Park (Dolores btwn 18th and 20th) to hang with the locals. Before leaving the area, stop by BiRite Ice Cream Shop (on 18th at Dolores) for a scoop of their signature salted caramel.

Just hire a bike and cycle over the Golden Gate to the Marin Headlands. It’s the best to do option for visitors on weekend.

Mission, Delores Park, Castro, Chinatown... all interesting places worth checking for completely different reason. If you have a car head out to Carmel then Big Sur. Trust me, you won't regret it. Amazing drive.
