The Mosser used to be my hotel of choice, before I got an apartment here. 54 4th Street, San Francisco Ca 94103 - Res. 800.227.3804. Reasonable prices. Annabelle's -- a nice restaurant -- is in the building.

You can't go far wrong with The Mosser if you need a place to stay for a few days in SF. It's pretty reasonable and has some very cheap rooms if you are willing to share a bathroom. The rooms are a little small for anything more than a few days IMHO, but they are clean, comfy and the hotel's location is pretty unbeatable in terms of getting around (near the Moscone Center and the Bart station)

I always stay at the Hotel Triton, convient for FiDi locations. If you book early enough to get the "zen suites" the rooms are small but very reasonable. The decoration is a bit dated, but the details are nice, and you won't feel like you're in a corporate hotel chain. Or if you're staying at least 7 days the prices fall dramatically. Free daily wine happy hour, decent little gym in the basement.

The Hotel Diva up near Union Square is generally our venue of choice at RedMonk, as it's reasonably nice, and the prices aren't bad as long as you're booking during the week. It's about a 10 minute walk from Moscone.

I'm a big fan of the Westin in SF. I've been in many Westins around the world and SF is one of the top 5.

Club Quarters is a right, splendid boutique hotel on Clay street in the Financial District, the best place I could recommend, combining comfort, service, pleasantness and price.

If you want to go all out, book at the W or the St. Regis on 3rd spare no luxury.

I really like the Harbor Court Hotel (a Kimpton) right on the Embarcadero across from the Ferry Building. Really nice place, great location, and usually reasonable rates. Great being on the water too...

Metro Hotel is another favourite of mine. Nice hotel, friendly service with a great sense of humor.

The Hotel Palomar just off Market Street is great (next to the Mosser, a few blocks from Mascone). I lived out of that hotel for two months this year. They helped keep me sane in the face of an otherwise crazy work schedule.

Hyatt Regency is a great hotel with awesome lighting on the main level. It is by the piers and a trolley that takes you to fishermans wharf. 5 Embarcadero Center, San Fran 94111 http://sanfranciscoregency.hyatt.com

The Hotel Astoria is a no frill hotel option. The hotel is at the corner of Bush and Grant, near the Gates to Chinatown. The hotel rooms are clean, comfy. Local is great for access to Moscone Center, Montgomery BART, Market Street MUNI buses and Union Square.

St. Regis. A bit expensive, but you can use SPG points and do a cash+points to get it down to a reasonable rate. The bar is a bit noisy and the staff in the bar isn't as nice and don't seem to coordinate much with the rest of the staff... but the rest of the hotel staff are very professional and friendly and the rooms are great. Also very conveniently located if you're working mostly SoMA.

University Club, 800 Powell Street, Knob Hill

You have to love quirky to like the University Club, but if you do love quirky you will love the University Club. (You also have to belong to the University Club system. Easy and cheap to do usually. Check with your school for the club they run or belong to.) The University is noisy and ram shackle. (There are ringing cable cars outside.) The place is aging. But the rest is all glory. Notice especially the Black Cat Club room, memorabilia from the SF Press club. The UC is as close as I'm ever going to get to living in a Raymond Chandler novel.

The Club Quarters is a splendid and reasonably priced boutique hotel in the Financial District, near North Beach and Chinatown. With its proximity to the more prominent sights of SF and a brisk walk away from Union Square, the Embarcadero and SoMA, along with its excellent service and accommodations, I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

I stayed at the Mosser on my last trip and I hated it. The rooms are *TINY* - a standard room is just a bed & nothing else - not even a closet or dresser. I got them to move me to a 'suite' which has two beds and a closet, but still no dresser.

I prefer either the Pickwick or Milano, just around the corner from the Mosser. The Milano has especially nice rooms.
