Mehfil, it's an Indian restaurant at Folsom and 2nd st. Good Indian food for between $5-$7.

Taqueria Cancun, the location at 19th & Mission. Amazing carne asada tacos (2 for $5) and burritos ($6-$8).

Tu Lan on 6th and Market. Best vietnamese food you will ever have in the US. And the greasy spoon ambiance is pure SF.

Yamo, belly up to the bar burmese on the 18th street side of 18th and mission. my god, i would kill people for the tea leaf salad.

Saigon Sandwich Shop on Eddy and Larkin. It is close to Civic Center/City Hall so very accessible by public transit, and these lovely Vietnamese Sandwiches - Ban Mi - only cost $3 each. I'd get like 1.5 per person and it's VERY filling, it is roasted pork sliced, drizzled with sweet/slightly vinegary/savory sauce, filled with lettuce, julienned vegetables, sliced fresh hot peppers on french rolls crisp on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. It's the best ban mi you can get in the city.

Kitaro, on Geary, for cheap and fresh sushi. Naan n Curry, on Irving, for cheap and spicy Indian food. Shalimar (I prefer the Polk location), also for Indian.

Marina Submarine is the best sandwich in the city.

Yamo on 18th near mission. Whole-in-the-wall-unbelievably-delicious-Burmese. Get the tea salad and drink fresh coconut juice.
