  This is a great whiskey bar (the wall is covered with a variety of bottles). They have wine and beer (from Magnolia brewery, down the street) as well, but if you've ever wanted to learn more about whiskey, this is the place to do it at. The bartenders are all somewhat subdued, but very cool and laidback. When you walk into the place, it's as though you've been transported away from the touristy/hippie/homeless Haight Street experience to a chic little New York dive. It get's crowded here, but there's always a good time to be had at the Alembic. The appetizers they sell are pretty snazzy too! A true favorite of mine.

  Yet another great place for people watching. Buy some off-beat books from the store nearby and sit and poke through what you bought. Someone just might start and interesting conversation, or steal the show with the things they have to say. Great beer. Haven't tried the whiskey yet, for I'm simply a person for good beer. I'll go back and try the whiskey!
