    Three things come into mind:

    1) Watch the sunset at Del Mar. Leave car at around end of 9th street and walk along the beach bank to Jake's Del Mar

    2) Zoo. Polar bears are my favorite

    3) Visit USS Midway. Takes 3 hours and more for men :)

Balboa Park, which includes the zoo, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Timkin Museum of Art, the Museum of Man, the Automotive Museum, the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, the Air & Space Museum, Museum of Natural History, the Japanese Friendship Garden, etc. You don't even have to go to any of these places--you can just walk around and enjoy the scenery.

There's Legoland & Sea World. La Jolla is nice to check out & stroll around. There is the MCASD, as well as Seal Beach. The Birch Aquarium is also in the area. There are also some recognized breweries in San Diego: Alesmith, Ballast Point, Lost Abbey/Port Brewing, & Stone to name a few. If you like wine tasting, it's worth a trip to Temecula.

San Diego Air & Space Museum, located in Balboa Park. It's a great place to spend an afternoon, and kids would love it, as well. There are several interactive exhibits, as well as some wild mission simulators.

San Diego is a GREAT theatre town, so after you do the Zoo/Balboa Park, check out the great shows as Old Globe, San Diego Repertory, Cygnet, or La Jolla Playhouse and tons of smaller theatres! checkout www.sdwhatsplaying.com for current shows and links to tickets (some half-price!). Also, North Park has become a great neighborhood for food, drinks, and music (start at 30th & Upas). Some favorites include Sea Rocket Bistro (local sea food and veggies and beer), Ritual Tavern, Toronado, The Linkery, and Urban Solace.
