Extremely budget hotel: the 500 West

Whenever I'm attending ETech on a budget, I stay at the 500 West. It used to be the city's YMCA and now it's a very basic hotel. The wifi only works in the lobby and there are no en-suite bathrooms, but it's central and very cheap.

This tip has the address "500 West Broadway"

Just been there, good value for money ($65 for a twin room), wi-fi for $5,95 per day, in rooms as well. Bathrooms were always clean and the room was small but ok. Would stay there again. Friendly staff, great location.

The hotel itself is okay, although a little dated and not worthy of the "Grand" name. I do not recommend, however, staying anywhere where the owner has drawn a line in the sand and donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to hate-based initiatives in the state. If you care about what kind of business to support based on whether or not the owner of that business is open, kind, and treats all customers equally, I would stay clear of this hotel.

This is an awesome eco-friendly hotel option in San Diego. It also has an awesome terrace bar with great views of Petco Park-a great place to stay when you are in San Diego enjoying a Padres game!

Doug Manchester gave $125,000 to the Yes-On-Prop-8 campaign. http://www.boycottmanchesterhotels.com/. Stay well clear of this hotel. Take your conference elsewhere.

Breakfast isn't anything to look forward to. Bathrooms are available in single and community style. You can see the bay... as well as planes on approach with a clear vantage of the runway. But the people are friendly! A/C seems to be limited to how open your window is.
