Bakesale Betty's for amazing fried chicken sandwiches...

...and cookies, and brownies, and scones, and strawberry shortcake, and and and... The people here are also incredibly friendly. Don't be surprised if you're handed a free cookie or lemon ice. And don't be put off by the long line--it moves quickly.

Breads of India is good

In the mood for some good Indian chow while in Oakland? Check out Breads of India on college. They just changed cooks, and the food is amazing for how much it costs. Good leftovers as well.

Lam Toro for Senegalese food

Lam Toro appears to be a good place for Senegalese food, but when we got there a little after 9pm, they were out of most dishes.

Cole Coffee for coffee (of course) and baked goods.

La Farine for bread - have a baguette with a café au lait from Cole Coffee and you'll be in heaven.

Burma Superstar

Great coffee, friendly folks, fast wi-fi, the occasional movie night or open mic. Excellent little place.

I think this location has closed, or moved further south to International or somewhere. Wish I had patronized them more...

Try Pican. Modern southern food like catfish, fried chicken, hush puppies. Nice space with great food and a full bar.

Save a penny and eat downstairs in the cafe. It's consistently great.

A beautiful place for sushi, if you can afford it.

Convenient spot for a late night eat in EMV.

Got to have the traditional Vietnamese drip coffee. So good.

Arizmendi has great pastries, pizza and strong coffee.

Sabuy Sabuy Thai Cuisine one of the best Thai food places I have found. Mango salad is out of this world!
