If you're an outdoors kind of person, Lake Chabot is a great place to spend a sunny day with fishing, boating, 20 miles of hiking and cycling trails (linking to 70 miles of additional trails in the next regional park) and facilities for picnics and BBQs.

If you're an indoors / science kind of person, Chabot observatory offers a megadome theater, planetarium and numerous traveling exhibits, including some hands-on stuff for kids (as well as several educational programs specifically aimed at children). The observatory has several telescopes and offers day time viewing at weekends (as well as night time viewing all week).
