I stayed at two hotels. The Serena is a large hotel that could be anywhere. The Emin Pasha is smaller, more sophisticated, and feels like Africa. Beautiful.

Merrick Schaefer replied over 3 years agoA phone store that doesn't rip you off
Working for a large NGO working on SMS development programs, we needed phones in bulk at a fair price. Being a horrible bargainer things were looking grim. Finally we found "Pick a Phone" They listed their prices, were nice and friendly, and had cheap phones.
If you need a mobile phone to simplify traveling around Africa of if you need a lot for mobile phone testing check them out. They sell phones one at a time as well as wholesale. And for the equivalent of $15 USD they can fit into any budget.

Mark Johnston replied over 3 years agoBoda Bodas
If you are in the city center and going somewhere not too far away, don't be afraid to hop on a boda boda. They are cheap, efficient, and provide a unique experience of the city. The drivers are generally very courteous and charge fair prices (1,000 to 3,000 USH), just agree on the price beforehand. Though it is a fun ride, remember that it affords less protection than a car - something to keep in mind if there is heavy traffic or dangerous conditions.
