You will find local markets in many streets all over the place. Daytime for food, night-markets for goods and fast-food Taiwanese style... just try everything

I loved the Shilin Nightmarket. Take a taxi or take the Metro until Shilin (or a stop before Shilin).

I personally like Tong-Hua nightmarket. It has a big variety of food. Don't know which once you should try? Just follow the crowd!

Besides, there are also shoes, bags, and clothes that are fashionable and cheap. Don't expect too highly on the quality, though. They'll last a season, 2 if you are lucky. But it's so cheap that you wouldn't mind.

Go out of the city and head to Jioufen Old Street for a really pretty local market. Within the city, Taipei 101 is a very modern mall where you can buy very high end goods from global brands.
