If you have a lavish budget, try the Four Seasons on Bosphorus in Ortaköy. This is a recent addition to the city's hotel scene and the ambiance is definitely worth the buck/

It's in Sultanahmet, a touristy part of town but it's clean, affordable, and right near the tram - Tan Hotel (www.tanhotel.com). Great if you're in Istanbul to see the sights. Free breakfast on the roof of the building - wake up to views of the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and the Bosphorus...

On a low budget for young people - The Londra Hotel. (Buyuk Londra Oteli) Simply amazing. Hemmingway stayed here, (one of the many famous guests). the BEST bar in town. historic, super nice staff and fun.

Great view from the terrace. variety of rates depending on room. (you can bargain with them)

Kitsch and completely original and bizarre.

If you need to stay on the Asia side, pick the Marriott Istanbul Asia. It puts every other Marriott to shame and is on par with brands like The Westin, W, or even the St. Regis minus the art. Don't spend more than 200euro.

We stayed at the Four Seasons and it was flawless. Every aspect of the trip was amazing and the depth of culture and history in the city was overwhelming. Take the side streets, get off the beaten path, there is soooo much.

I believe one of the best district to stay is Kadıkoy. For the day time you can easily catch a ferry to the Europian side and it takes only 20 min. And for the night time there are very delicuos and inexpensive restaurants around the fish market. And also a lively night life at the bar street of Kadıkoy.
