Music and food

I was chairing a conference in Goteborg and so saw all too little of the city. The opera house is a beautiful light building on the waterside. To judge by the singing we heard there, the standard must generally be very high. A Swede told me that choir singing is the most popular hobby in Sweden. Is this true? I ate dinner at Sjomagasinet, also on the edge of the water and a great place to eat while the sun goes down in the evening. Not cheap, though.

Great coffee. This is where the locals hang out. It's small but everyone's friendly. Read the paper, chitchat with the baristas. Remember: they don't accept credit cards.

My favourite place to grab a coffee in Göteborg. A tiny coffee bar, full of charm, they serve excellent coffee and light pastries to go with it. Sometimes there's live music during the weekend; it may be hard to believe they can fit it in, but they do.

Recently under threat from an exorbitant rent hike, this is a place to be treasured for as long as possible.

This restaurant by Magnus and Magnus is superb!
