Esther Dyson replied over 4 years agoBarashka - right near the Center (across from Marriott Aurora at Petrovka 20/1). It has genuine Azeri food but relies on quality rather than ethnicity. No colorful carpets, native-dress waiters or other kitsch - just an evident belief that the food can speak for itself. And, for a Moscow restaurant, pleasantly quiet. http://eng.novikovgroup.ru/restaurants/barashka/info/

Esther Dyson replied over 4 years agoCafe Bosco/Bar Bosco in GUM, the 90s' remake of the Soviet shopping emporium into a ritzy, glitzy arcade. The food is sophisticated and not too pricey in both places; they are a good place to relax and watch Moscow's upper-middle-class (and some tourists) on break from their shopping excursions.

Heikki Halmetoja replied over 3 years agoThis restaurant is really over the top. The deco is like from an imaginary place in a fairy tale without a clear reference to a place or time. It is a combination of Italian Barock and Chinese Deco. It has been designed to impress Russian and international clientele, who are hungry for luxury.

Lilia Efimova replied over 3 years agoKartoshka-kroshka is a street food chain that is everywhere and is pretty good when you are hungry, on a budget and need something fast. You get baked potato with butter and cheese and then can choose various toppings on the top of it. The toppings are on display, so you should be able to manage without understanding much Russian. Eat there or take away.
Map with locations is at http://www.kartoshka.com/cafe/find-cafe/, but you can just look there once to see their logo and then find them in the city as you walk.
