If you can add a couple of days to your Bucharest trip... try to catch Sighisoara and/or Brasov. The cities are 5 hours or 2 hours (respectively) out of Bucharest's "Gara de Nord" train station. Brasov is enroute to Sighisoara so a stopover - spending one day in each - is a great way to see two unique Transylvanian cities.

Local friends suggested it: Caru' cu bere. It's a big and nearly "typical" Romanian Restaurant. Not too expensive, good beer and fair quality for the food.
