Highly recommended for brunch is Sweet Mother's Kitchen. Delicious New Orleans/Mexican-inspired food (including freshly made beignets), hearty breakfasts, organic teas & coffees plus a cocktail list which deserves exploration. It's nothing exciting from the outside (apart from lots of outside seating|), but it's friendly, comfortable and well-priced, and well worth a visit.

No bookings, so show up early on weekends for brunch.

Pixel ink is a gallery space selling art, prints, fashion and beautiful design & illustration objects in the heart of Wellington's hip Newtown neighbourhood.

Expect to spend at least half a day—if not the whole day—exploring the national museum. Oh, and watch out for the giant squid!

Nicolini's Italian Restaurant does the best Italian food in Wellington IMHO and has great staff with awesome atmosphere.
