Sweet Mother's Kitchen on Cuba Street does an amazing brunch, with sort of tex-mex stuff mixed up with great new zealand produce and coffee. Friendly staff and quirky decor make up for a little bit of a wait on the weekend.

Nicolini's Italian Restaurant on Courtenay Place is definitely the best place to eat in Wellington. Others that make the grade include Sweet Mothers Kitchen, Southern Cross, Midnight Espresso, Boulcott Street Bistro and Monsoon Poon.

Maranui suffered severe fire damage in August 2009 and is currently negotiating with Wellington Council to repair the buildings in their historic state rather than tear them down and build a new "super building". http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/wellington/2712949/Historic-club-cafe-destroyed
