Mark Rendeiro replied over 4 years agoI like going to the Hollandsche Manége, the stables that run alongside vondelpark. They're completely open to the public until 17h and people are very friendly and you'll get to watch equestrian students working on their routines, you can go pet the horses, you can have a drink and a snack on the grand balcony... and the building is beautiful. dont tell anyone else on the internets, this is my secret. http://www.dehollandschemanege.nl/

Esme Vos replied over 4 years agonighttime: check out who's performing at the Paradiso or Melkweg but if you like classical music, checkout the Concertgebouw. Whatever you like, make sure you go to the central office for events -- at the Stadsschouwburg on the Leidseplein
daytime (bad weather): check out the musea, go to the impressive Public Library near the Central Station, very nice rooftop cafe with good views of the harbor
daytime (good weather): rent bicycles and cycle to Broek in Waterland outside amsterdam, or if you want to drive, go to Broek then proceed on to Marken.

Fiede Schillmoeller replied over 4 years agoDo not miss a trip to Westergasfabriek at Westerpark - this lively art district features cafes and restaurants, theater, cinema and galleries. If you are into creative arts and design, this is a must - especially in summer!

Thijs van Exel replied over 4 years agoTake your time to deeply explore an area and connect with the people--it'll be great! Avoid the Dam Sq. and around and head west for the Jordaan. Spanjer & Van Twist at the Leliegracht is a great place for drinks and food. From there on, the Jordaan action is nearby. Both Lindengracht and Palmgracht are great streets for food and drinks, while the small streets of the surrounding Jordaan quarter will make good shopping.
The '9 straatjes' (nine streets) are at the eastern end of the Jordaan across the Rozengracht. Not to be missed.

Thomas Barthelet replied over 4 years agoGo clubbing in Escape Venue. It is by far one of the best clubs I have been in years. Excellent dance/house music coupled with a great scene and overwhelming lights. And the little cherry: a drink is less than 5€. www.escape.nl

Rutger Brandt replied over 4 years agoAside from visiting a museum, check out the extensive gallery circuit. My favorite is Galerie Mokum on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal. see: www.galeriemokum.com

roland hill replied over 4 years agoIf you enjoy a nice beer, then check out brouwerij 't Ij. A micro brewery in a windmill in East Amsterdam. See link to English language pages below. The beer is tasty, organic, and strong (starting around 6%). Weekends it opens at 1, and closes at 8. When the weather is nice, there is space to sit out. If you go on a Sunday and are lucky, you'll spot the Vespa club.

Carlijn replied over 3 years agoFor live music, especially improvised jazz (every tuesdaynight) and other themes this little place called 'Zaal 100' is the place to be in Westerpark. (www.zaal100.nl) It's friendly, quite something and a special place for special (inter-)cultural meetings! (also food, and other restaruants en clubs are nearby in the park itself) - NOT IN JULY & AUGUST - by the way...
