For homemade and good local buys, travellers ought to stay thru Sunday as there's a great flea market at the Gaya Street from 6.00am to 1.00pm every Sunday. Travellers can also head down to the Filipino Market for good souvenir shopping if they find the ones at the shopping mall too costly. Great souvenirs such as pareos, home deco and pearls can be found there. Be prepared to do alot of bargaining! Most shopping malls also have great souvenir shops and bookstores (that sells excellent travel books on Malaysia & Sabah {Kota Kinabalu & Borneo}) namely - Wisma Merdeka, CentrePoint Sabah, Asia City, 1Borneo to name a few.

I greatly enjoyed the food market in the docks. Select your food from different stalls and see it get grilled on the spot, then eat it.
