  the old penang guesthouse is a good option for backpackers, located in a pre-ww2-restored building not expensive (not rock-bottom cheap either though), but clean and nice atmosphere.

  preferably book in advance, cause it seemed always fully booked and they had to turn down a lot of passers.

  btw: free basic breakfast & wifi available in the common room
