    Best budget accomodation are on love lane or chulia street. The cheapest place 2 stay is love lane inn, on love lane

    Best stay, not budget, is the East & Oriental Hotel. Beatiful colonial building with great rooms and facilities. This is a treat.

    the old penang guesthouse is a good option for backpackers, located in a pre-ww2-restored building not expensive (not rock-bottom cheap either though), but clean and nice atmosphere.

    preferably book in advance, cause it seemed always fully booked and they had to turn down a lot of passers.

    btw: free basic breakfast & wifi available in the common room
