If you are staying in downtown Cancun, I recommend Restaurant 100% Natural, La Parrilla or Chacandole. All of these are in downtown Cancun, are relatively inexpensive and have fantastic food. If you can, try to get to Chacandole between 1-4PM for their Comida Corrida --- this is a price fixe three-course meal that was goes for about 45 pesos. If you go later than that, I recommend the enchiladas poblanos with the chocolate/chili mole sauce.

No matter where you go, make sure you bring pesos.

A good place we enjoyed is Plaza de las Palapas. The good thing, is that is that you won't see almost any tourist; it's very local. There you can have tacos and quesadillas at logical prices. This is in Cancun City (not hotel zone).
