Maltese cuisine in St. Julians, Malta

I was told this place was “typical” Maltese so I wanted to try it. I am glad I did. It’s in an old Malta stone house. Two levels and an outdoor al fresco dining porch on the street. On the porch is a refrigerated case where the daily catches are displayed.

I started with a plate of large butter beans, sun dried tomato, and broad bean paté served with galletti (a Maltese cracker). Next a plate of Italian calamari, pan sautéed in white wine and chili sauce. For the main, a whole grilled common sea bream locally caught. For dessert, try the Helwa tat-tork, a delicious local treat. The wine was a local Grenache Rosé. Very nice wine generously poured by the glass.
