One can walk along the banks through parks. Or take a rowboat or pedalo to explore the canal. Rental statiion near Freedom Monmument.

Please have a walk in the open-air museum, which is located in the forest next to the lake.

For photographers. If you want to explore Soviet-type districts, check such block house districts as Purvciems and Plavnieki, for example. For specific 1-2 floor wooden houses districts check a territory around Maskavas Str. and Pardaugava.
