Gallery Cafe has the added benefit of a decent shop for buying gifts!

I always enjoy the Mango Tree for Indian food - better than any Indian food I've ever gotten in North America (though the best I've ever had was in London.) I always order too much...

I avoid the Gallery Cafe on ethical grounds, but the food is good, if a little pricey. Cafe on the 5th has some good snacks and light food. There are some fantastic places in Mount Lavinia, on the beach to have fresh sea food, including the Sea Cove at Mount Hotel. The Governors Terrace at Mount Lavinia Hotel and also Gall Face Hotel have a fantastic terrace each that gives opportunities for fantastic sunsets while having tea or sipping a cool beer.

Since Negombo is so close to the airport I always stay at a beach hotel there. The idea of driving for 2 hours to get to Mt Lavinia, after the long flights, impacts my choice on this one. On the beach strip in Negombo, (Porutota Rd) there are a number of good restaurants.
