It is quite depends on your shopping, what you want to buy. However, if you want to feel the heat of Tokyo local market, I recommend "Ameya Yoko-cho." The name is came from this area's history, the area was pretty famous for candys. But now a days you can buy fishes, dried food, cloth, or whatever you want (except electronics). The area becomes busy at evening. Recommended time to visit is round 5 PM.

Ameya Yoko-cho is a good recommendation. Other options:

For (maybe cheesy) souvenirs: - Shopping street leading to temple in Asakusa - Japanese goods shop in Omotesando - Souvenir floor of any department store

    Youth fashion: - Takeshita-doori, Harajuku

    Fashion - Ginza or Ometesando

Food - Basement floor of any department store - Cheap food at hanamasa mini-market at Shimbashi side of Ginza

Toys: - Toy store at Shimbashi side of Ginza

Electronics: - Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara, or BIC Camera in Shinjuku or Yurakucho

    Books (mainly Japanese) - Jimbocho

One of my favourite shopping areas in Tokyo are:

Daikanyama (代官山) An area with low buildings and fancy/trendy shops and cafés. It's a little expensive here sometimes, but you are sure to find places you can't find anywhere else in the world! It's easy to get here, only one station from Shibuya with Tokyu Toyoko metro line. Some places I recommend are:

    - Restaurant/Café ura ebis. With a really trendy but lay-back atmosphere, it's the perfect place to enjoy lovely western-inspired dinners (main dish for around ¥1500), a healthy lunch/brunch (around ¥1000), some of the fabulous home-made desserts (¥880) or just sit back and perhaps read a good book and enjoy a cooling ice-coffee. http://www.cporganizing.com/ura/index.html
