    Uronza Guesthouse

This is a very quiet, very quaint old building whose single manager Hide-san looks after. Located near the big intersection of Shijo and Horikawa Dori. I'd also recommend you take a bath in the local sento, for which you can buy tickets at Uronza for 350 Yen.

If you are looking for friendly atmosphere, a small zen garden in the backyard and english-speaking staff, stay at the Tour Club. Low prices, clean and safe. It is a dorm, and you have to be there at eleven in the night, but if you're not into clubhopping in Kyoto, this is the place to go. Very close to the central station, all buslines and a nice local bath in the neighbourhood. The staff also invites you for a free sake in the evening hours, which is very nice..!

I recommend Brighton Hotel. Quiet place, nice staffs and most preferable point is cheap. I stayed at there 6,100yen/night. (At end of February. It is not so busy season)

Pros - Friendly staff - Nice rooms, well equiped and comfortable - No minibar, but there is a mini-fridge and reasonable priced vending machines serving drinks and hot meals - Free internet via ethernet cable

Cons - Breakfast is not included but an optional Japanese style is available, there is a cafe below the hotel that does nice and reasonable weston style breakfasts.

Just outside of the center, ideal for a walk to the Kyoto Zoo, Philosopher's Walk, etc. Metro stop right next to the hotel.

Great Youth Hostel. And the bar located just in front of the Hostel is a great place to meet with other travelers!
