    Trattoria Anima Bella

Cosy five-table establishment run by two women, one of whom is a dead ringer for Julie Christie (though brunette). Try the house pasta.

This tip has the address "Calle Fiubera, San Marco, 956, near Ponte dei Ferali."

    Osteria Mocenigo

Airy establishment serving excellent, quite reasonably priced Venetian fare. Good wine list.

    Ristorante Riviera

Lovely food, entertaining waiters, gorgeous spot (opposite the Hilton). It's right on the 2 Vaparetto line too, if I recall correctly. Pricey, but worth it.

    Al Fontego dei Pescatori

If you want a special treat, and are prepared to spend some time and money, Al Fontego dei Pescatori is not to be missed! Al Fontego dei Pescatori is owned and run by Loris Manna, President of the Rialto fishmongers. Much thought and care is put into the preperation of the dishes, as well as making sure the diner properly enjoys the dishes.

Visit this restaurant to experience a relaxed dinner of exceptional quality and taste -- not just a quick plate of pasta. I spent almost as much on a meal for two here as I did for two nights at our off-season, three-star hotel... but it was worth it!

(Eventually I'll have photos up of some of our dishes -- if I don't come back to link to themon Dopplr, feel free to email me at geekykitty [@t] gmail [d0t] com.)

Osteria ai Pescatori on the island of Burano. Fabulous fried calamari, very friendly and delicious food, all around. :)

Also, Bistrot de Venise - amazing service - charming and attentive, and everything was absolutely delicious. We went there as a special treat on our last night (it's on the more expensive side). Every course came with a small appetizer beforehand. Everything, from the first to the last morsel, was incredible. http://www.bistrotdevenise.com

Al Volto, Calle Cavali is great but small bar / restaurant. Proprietor offes only one dish: past and mussles followed by grilled fillet of sea bass. Pasta dish was perfect.

Nice designer restaurant. It's a bit expensive but remember that you are in Venice and that you are in the most beautiful area of Venice, between La Fenice Theater and Saint Mark's Square. Excellent Venetian recipes, chic and contemporary ambience and great service.

We went to this place twice - once for coffee and once for dinner. They were a bit miserable when we went for coffee and wouldn't let us sit by the river. On the second visit, much more friendly. I had the Ravioli, the Sea Bass and a Fruit Salad. Lovely.

This restaurant is run by a friend of mine - so what can I say? ;-)

It's near the fish market and they use that to their advantage. We had the Scallops, Fish soup and Sea Bass - the Bass had been caught fresh that morning and was delicious.
