Amritsar is a city of 3 things. History, Chilling and FOOD. If you want good Amritsari food, there are a couple of places you might want to check out. 1. Chungi wala Kulcha, Race Course Road / Maqbool Road intersection, Joining Green Avenue locality. 2. Go into the bylanes near the Golden Temple to explore the REAL, OLD Amritsar where all it's golden history is hidden under a seemingly un-tidy cover. You'll find loads of small shops like 'Amarchand Halvai', 'Goenka Halvai' etc. over there 3. Go to 'Kanha Sweets' on Lawrence Road on a Sunday morning between 9:00 am and 12:00 am for fabulous poori cholle and halwa. 4. Hotel Ista on G.T. Road, Crystal Restaurant on Queen's Road, M.K. Hotel in Ranjit Avenue and The Astoria in Ranjit Avenue for formal dining

People in case you are always starving for meal prepared with desi ghee, go to Kesar da Dhaba. It's a 10 minutes walking distance from the Golden Temple or hire a rickshaw for no more than 15 INR. One of the favorite here being the 'phirnis' a sweetdish served in a traditional style. And of course Amritsar is the only place in the world where you'll get Fish Fry with Kuclha. Don't dare to miss it if you love animals :)
