Kerstin Klein replied over 5 years agoGrand Canal Square
a very nice place to spend some time on designed by the landscape architect mMartha schwartz. the lighted installation is beautiful - especially after sunset. if you are there arround noon, visit the Cafe Java on the square and try a Mallowchino - sounds strange, tastes delicious.

Bernard Goldbach replied over 5 years agoSt. Arbucks, Patron Saint of Coffee
When in Dublin, you will find votive tables dedicated to St. Arbucks, the patron saint of coffee. If you visit these shrines, you should consider eating one large cinnamon bun in honour of His Presence. The coffee is a lot like warmed-over milkshakes, appealing to my American palette.

Three of the more old fashioned variety that I happen to have enjoyed. The Long Hall, (South Great George's Street), Stags Head (Dame Court), Nearys (Chatham Street).

Good contemporary food, no fussing, not expensive.
They were able to cope with six of us arriving without warning. The food arrived swiftly, and was well-received by all. The vegetarian option went down well too.

Matt Patterson replied over 5 years agoCookes: Good seafood
Excellent seafood to be had here, worth the price - we wound up paying about €50 a head for two courses, including wine.

Matt Patterson replied over 5 years agoBang Café - pricey but worth it.
Bang Café, just off St Stephen's Green, supplied excellent food and friendly service. Six of us showed up unannounced, and we were still seated quickly.
The food was excellent - modern Irish - and everyone was impressed. It wasn't cheap, but it was well worth it.

I'll come straight out with it - I'm a stained glass nerd and am crazy about the work of Dublin's son Harry Clarke. There are plenty of examples of his work to be seen in the city but his most viewed example is his "Bird of Paradise" panel on display in Bewleys coffee shop on Grafton Street.
There is so much to see besides the stained glass, hooray you say. How about the most beautiful book in the world? The Book of Kells is on view in the library of Trinity College. The Museum of Decorative Arts, in the Collins Barracks, and the Museum of Modern Art are worth seeing just for the scale and settings of the buildings alone.
The icing on the cake is the Chester Beatty Library European Museum of the Year in 2002. Visit it to find out why for free.
One other thing, lunch at the Irish Film Centre, Eustace Street in Temple Bar on scrummy veggie food in a cool setting.

Jessica Spengler replied over 4 years agoAvoca Cafe
The cafe upstairs from the Avoca shop isn't exactly cheap, but it does really nice food and cakes, and it's in a lovely, bright space. And if you don't want to sit in, there's a deli with lots of takeaway stuff in the basement of the building.

Exquisite Michelin-star food, superb service. Have had lunch here twice and it blew my head both times. (I have to admit I don't make a habit of going to extra fancy restaurants though.)

Joe Drumgoole replied over 4 years agoThe Elephant and Castle - Temple Bar
One of the best and oldest restaurants in Temple Bar (or Dublin for that matter). Chicken wings are to die for, a must have item and the the rest of the menu comprising of burgers, salads and brunch food is all top notch.
No bookings, but they will take you name and you can return after sampling a guinness in one of the many pubs in the area, my personal recommendation is the Palace Bar just down the road towards Westmoreland St.

Kevin Cannon replied over 4 years agoCafé Bliss, just off Camden street is a great place for breakfast or brunch. Excellent French toast, poached eggs, breakfast omelettes and other things. It was a favourite of mine when living around the corner for 2 years.
Here's the address: Café Bliss, 4B Montague Street.

Kevin Cannon replied over 4 years agoCafé Irie is a nice little café in the middle of Temple Bar. It's got excellent sandwiches, a large selection of great breads, as well as nice panini's. Not the cheapest, but a nice, relaxed atmosphere usually with light reggae music playing. :)

Emil Varga replied over 3 years agoThe best coffee in Dublin and one of my favourite places.. a little Tunisian pastry and coffee shop in the "Italian quarters" of Dublin. A well hidden lil place where you can sit down anytime (yes, coffee around midnight when you just might need it) with some oriental sounds in the air and have a great tea, some mouthwatering Arabian cookies and a shisha/hookah.. did I meantion the great coffee? :)
One of the few hidden jewels..

Meg O'Keefe replied over 3 years agoKeshk Café on Leeson St - this place is such a gem. It doesn't look like much on the outside but it serves up really good well priced food. Service is very speedy and friendly. Very tasty falafel and hummus. It is BYOB but there is a wine shop next door and also a Spar and the good thing is that there is no corkage charge :) http://www.menupages.ie/Dublin/south_dublin/dublin_south/keshk_cafe.aspx
