If you like the outdoors, go to either Sai Kung in the north-east, or Shek-O on the south of HK Island. Or one of the outlying islands.

A hike definitely. If you're short on time, Dragonsback on takes about 1 1/2 hrs.

Hiking - Hike the back side of from Victoria's Peak. Walk - take the ferry to Lantau Island, walk from one side to the other (ferries on both ends). Wander around Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden, http://www.kfbg.org Hop a subway line and get off someplace, just wander about.

Lantau Island is great. Get MTR to Tung Chung then a local bus to Tai O fishing village and just wander round for hours.

One of our family traditions: visiting Cheung Chau, one of the several outlying islands from Hong Kong. The fresh seafood restaurants there are to die for and the place has spectacular beaches and pristine scenery. If you enjoy nature and/or cultural photography, Cheung Chau is the perfect destination. The best way for photographers to take it all in is to rent a bike and go riding around the island. You're sure to find incredible shots. PACK EXTRA WATER.

My recommendation: Take the First Ferry from Pier 5 of Central Ferry Terminal. Make sure to take the High Speed Ferry to shave off 30 minutes of what would normally be a hour long journey.
