Alana Karathanasis replied over 3 years agoWhere to stay in Athens...
Don't stay in Ommonia, it's crappy and dangerous. Even though the guide books and websites will tell you it's "the centre of Athens" it isn't, it's horrible. Stay in Plaka or Syntagma. It's closer to all the sites, cleaner, prettier and full of lots of little side alleys where all the great restaurants are. Plaka is especially beautiful, it's like the towns on the Greek Islands. Winding streets, markets, people. Definitely the best spot to stay.
This tip has the address "Plaka" -
Florin Dr replied over 2 years agoI stayed in Monastiraki and it was definitely a more ethnic experience. Not as touristy (and expensive) as Plaka but with charming flea markets and little tavernas with a view over the Acropolis nearby the ancient Agora. It's definitely closer to the locals while very central. I agree Omonoia/Omonia looks a bit shady.

Axel Bruns replied over 2 years agoAirotel Parthenon in 6 Makri. Perfect location just south of the Plaka, reasonable prices, and pretty good breakfast inclusive. And check out the little green restaurant on the corner, whose decor hasn't changed since the 60s...

Fotis Psathas replied over 2 years agoIt is good all the advices above, specially that centre of athens is bad to stay (omonoia area), bad beautiful for visit and touristic reasons. If you plan to stay in Athens with family for short of long term then you should try Nea Smyrni district, with is between Acropolis and the coastline. Is a modern district, with new building and nice conditions. Furthermore is a safe area and has perfect connection on public transport with all the sights of Athens and with the beaches. I just mention that with bus, or bus/metro combination you are at the centre in 15-20 minutes, and the coast can be reached with bus or the tram (about 20 minutes from the main square). Nathaniel Ho replied over 2 years agoI enjoyed my stay here. It had a good corporate rate for me. It is very close to Sygrou-Fix metro and tram, making commuting easy. On my first night, they gave out complimentary chocolates. Nice touch. Small and cute. Rooftop garden has direct view of Acropolis, but it is not open in Winter. Food is nothing special and slightly pricey.

Xristina A replied about 1 year agoDorian Inn is located in Omonia Square, it is in the center of Athens. That helped us save time because everything was near: the shops, all the archaeological sites, the metro. I loved the restaurant of the hotel not only because of the meals but also because it had a marvelous view over the sea and Acropolis. Our room was very comfortable and the staff was very helpful. We felt welcomed and I believe that we will go there again!
