Dionysus restaurant for fine food and a great view of Acropolis.

This is a classy place right at the base of the Acropolis. Book in advance for a table outside and enjoy the breathtaking view. The fish is great grilled. Wine list includes some excellent Greek makers. Take a walk after dinner around the base of the Acropolis.

Restaurant Portale

A newly opened (opened in June 2008) Italian restaurant and café at the very heart of the Pireus Port, right next to the official Blue Star Ferries office. If you arrive by train from central Athens, you just have to cross the foot bridge to get there.

The food is absolutely excellent, served elegantly in smart, but cosy settings.

The wine list is equally exiting with many rising stars among the Greek wines on the list (and yes, you can drink Greek wine with Italian food - we had an excellent Greek Nebbiolo, that matched the food perfectly).

This place is well worth a visit.

Chocolat

Great selection of huuuuge and tasty desserts (I haven't even had such a huge cheesecake in the States) and amazing view of the Acropolis, Lycabettus hill and the ancient Agora!

FAGOPOTI VERY TRADITIONAL GREEK TAVERNA

Greek food and wine is done really well here. There are delicious home made meals, and mezes. Great desserts too. Fagopoti is the real deal traditional Greek restaurant. The owner is a young friendly person named Lambros. Seek him out. Don't even ask for a menu. Just tell Lambros to bring some starters and to suggest a main course. Sit by the fire place and have a nice glass of Greek wine. There are NO TOURISTS here. The live traditional greek music with guitar and bouzouki starts at nine and goes until two in the morning! Mermigas

Taste of authentic greek food. Popular with the locals, which is always a good sign. We noticed that we had ordered a mostly vegetarian diner, without even trying too.

Simple but original Tavernas - difficult to identify in Eptahalkou 5: it's opposite of a church just next to metroline (Eptahalkou is "pedestrian" street). Full with locals, honest greek food for reasonable prices (mainly meat from grill and all the standard side dishes)

You should take the subway and descend in Keramikos (Κεραμεικός) Station. There is a square surrounded by bars and restaurants. This is a place with almost no tourists! (my fave kind of place). Chose the place you like the most, and enjoy a good cheese and wine sitting in a little table by the street!

It has some of the greatest dishes, I've eaten in Athens. French cuisine nice environment and the prices are low for the quality of the food.

Excellent food. If you only have one night in Athens, eat here.

Great Chicken Skeewers

Great when eating alone in spring, quite a disappointment when bringing in 45 people in autumn.

Nice dinner, "funky" decore...: )...(I don´t know if they mented it that way..

Terrible food. Bad and expensive. Total rip off . Scenery if of course beautiful!
