Welcome to
For trying local food there are numerous other and much better opportunities than Café Kala. For local youth Café Kala is rather a place where to bring your foreign guests, where to listen to nice jazz music from time to time or where to meet tourists. For Georgian food go to first sakhinkle, and if you want to try Georgian food in a special atmosphere with a great view, visit a restaurant located close to the open air museum, halfway on the road to the Kus Tba. In the centre my fav's were restaurants called Shemoikhede Genatsvale, one in Leselidze street, other in 5 Marjanishvili Street.
North West suburbs
One of the most affordable hotels in Tbilisi, a little out to the North West, close to good supermarkets (where you can pay with VISA).

The Hotel Charm is one of the well-frequented small family hotels that are supposedly described in most tourist guides (didn't check). It's very comfy, decorated all in (fake Russian) white baroque style and pleasantly situated close to the main pedestrian zone, many shops and restaurants. Highly recommend it for atmosphere, style, and a very friendly staff all of which speaks English well. Internet is available from a PC at the desk.

Try the "Café Kala" along the main pedestrian zone in lower downtown Tbilisi. While it's a tourist area and prices are higher then elsewhere, traditional cooking at the Kala is very good.
Suggestions: go for the local, East Georgian variant of Chachapuri (and compare it to the Black Sea variant from, say, Batumi)
