Heaton
Belle & Herbs is a GREAT cafe in the Heaton area of Newcastle. They're open about 9-6 most days, serving breakfast from 9-3 and lunch/dinner from 12-6. They do a massive choice of meals, from an enormous full English breakfast to towering burgers, and all at very reasonable prices. Definitely highly recommended!

The best restaurant in Newcastle. French with a twist. Quite pricey though.
Opposite Central Station
Chilled out bar, popular with an alternative crowd. Upstairs is a busy bar with a good atmosphere, while downstairs is a slightly more dingy basement bar which quite often has live music on. Recommended if you want somewhere a little different, relaxed and more 'alternative'.

Really great food, cooked right in front of you by incredibly skilled chefs. Great atmosphere, including the obligatory egg-tossing. The only complaint I have is that the toilets aren't very clean, though I don't doubt the hygiene standards of the food as it's brought out raw in front of you and is clearly high quality meat.

this is the best chinese food I've ever had anywhere, and I've been to chinatown in San Francisco and NYC. The "duck tacos" as I call them with plum sauce are the best thing i've ever had.
City Centre
Usually very good sandwiches in this place and sometimes good biscuits, always tight quarters mind you. Just down Grey St. from the shopping mall
